Meet Our Team

Karl D. Wendler – Partner
Karl has over forty years underwriting and wholesale broking experience, specializing in the upstream energy industry, primarily Control of Well and associated property coverages as well as third party liability, both primary and excess. Karl is intimately familiar with the nuances of the contractual relationships and associated risks to oil and gas lease operators and non-operators, and has expertly designed many specialized programs for his clients addressing the unique risks inherent to upstream energy companies. Over the years Karl has also participated in and managed numerous and varied claims situations on behalf of his clients, both as underwriter and as broker.

John C. Meloy, A.R.M. – Partner
John has over forty years of underwriting, risk management and wholesale broking experience specializing in the upstream energy industry. More than 30 of those years have been spent in the wholesale broking business concentrating on Control of Well and associated property coverages along with third party liability, both primary and excess. John has authored one of the Control of Well policy forms and associated endorsements currently being utilized by Triad and he has participated in numerous claims situations both as a surplus lines broker on behalf of his clients and as an expert witness on behalf of the insured in lawsuits against domestic insurers.

Alan E. Smith – Partner
Alan has worked in the Lloyd’s market for forty years, the first 17 as a broker. He has been a Lloyd’s Underwriting Agent for the past 21 years, and is currently COO of Oilfield Insurance (Agencies) Ltd., London and also owner/partner in several regional MGAs in the UK and North America.

Stuart Griffiths – Partner
Stuart has worked in the Lloyd’s market for thirty years, and has become a very important energy underwriter in that market. He is Executive Director and Energy Underwriter at Oilfield Insurance (Agencies) Ltd., London.

Steve Warren, – Partner
Steve has over 40 years of experience as a professional in the London insurance market. Beginning his career as a Lloyd’s broker, he moved into underwriting and enjoyed success as an underwriter in the London company arena before moving to Lloyd’s of London to work for a major syndicate specializing in Energy insurance. He retired from his position as Group Head of Energy in March, 2018. Steve is well known and respected in the energy insurance sector, and during his time as an underwriter he also served on the London Market Joint Rig Committee (JRC) between 1996 and 2015.
